Class Descriptions

Creative Movement – Ages 3 – 4

Designed to introduce the technique of dance along with fun activities that promote creativity.

Pre-Ballet – Ages 5 – 6 

An introduction to ballet. Many Creative Movement class elements are used along with ballet terms.

Tap Beg – Ages 7 – 10

Students will learn the fundamentals of tap dynamics which include learning basic tap steps and using the feet to express rhythmical sounds, emphasis and accent. Starting in March.

Ballet 1 – Ages 7 – 10 (or a year of pre-ballet)

We use a specific ballet curriculum which focuses on foundational elements of classical ballet.

Capoeira

These classes are open to those ages 8 to 15 years old starting in March. This Brazilian form of dance will help the student increase full body strength through quick, powerful movements

Ballet 2 & up

We use a specific ballet curriculum which builds upon the classical foundation through multi-step combinations and style/presentation coaching. The Cecchetti method is the predominant ballet training method used for these levels.  Pointe classes are offered for Ballet 4 and up.  Most students spend 2-3 years in each level.

Jazz 3 & up – Ages 9 & up

Students are required to take ballet classes if taking jazz. Students are taught the techniques of jazz movement and its influences including Latin, African, and hip hop. Most students spend 2-3 years at each level.

Blender

This class is specially designed for the upper level dancer (level 3 and up) to provide special encouragement while blending a variety of conditioning exercises, theme-based dance elements and fun!

Irish Dance (soft shoe)

Irish Soft Shoe dancing is a traditional form of dancing that originated in Ireland hundreds of years ago.  This class will look at the different styles of soft shoe dances including the reel, single jig, light jig and slip jig.  Dancers should be prepared to move, jump, spin and kick as they learn the traditional steps.

Dance Ministry Team (DMT)

DMT is a special dance team composed of trained dancers (adult/teen) who use dance to serve and minister at various outreaches and venues. Rehearsals will take place during the Intermediate dance class times.
